Well, taste is subjective but this doesn't say Range Rover to me at all and that interior does not look like it belongs in a vehicle costing in the 90's.
I also wonder at the list of competitors. It seems to be a mix of two distinct segments.  X3 and Macan but then the GLE and RX-350?

The reviewer's comment about having to access the drive modes through touch screen menus also turn me off but then I'm a confirmed "turn the knob or push the button" kind of guy.  ;)
Old Jag convertible...one itch I won't have to scratch again.

Yeah, I can live with touch screens/menus etc for vehicle settings I may adjust once and then leave.

When it comes to things I may want to turn on and off, change or adjust........ :nono:

I really like the looks of the Velar inside and out. I'm still surprised that Land Rover thought there was a gap between the Evoque and the Sport.

There should definitely be a knob for drive modes though.

Durango SRT is somewhere around $75k, looks similar, and is properly quick. It won't be any less reliable either.  ;D

Looks similar?  ??? I guess, in that it's a two box design with four wheels.

Not exactly night and day.

I can't see any specific details that are really similar. But then again I also don't think Jaguars look like Audis.  :P

This car, especially in black-on-black-on-black-on-black, is more of a statement than I think I'd like to make, and the TFT screen responsiveness in the winter surely will suck.

I love a HUD, but yeah, paying $1k for it is a bit ouchy...but at least you don't have to get the maximum option packages to get it in there.

I dig it, generally, but probably wouldn't buy it unless I lived in Palm Springs ;D

I think most manufacturers charge $1000-1500 for a HUD so the price isn't out of line.

To me the Velar is an exercise in luxury design and execution targeted to properly rich buyers who want to differentiate themselves from the well off folks driving around in their common BMW, MB, Audi, Lexus, Jag, etc....

Personally, I like the design in and out and I'm sure that if you start looking at the details, you will find a lot of things beyond the spec sheet that will put the Velar above the common luxury offerings in terms of luxury. I also expect to see quite a few areas where form takes precedence over function in such a vehicle (all-digital central console for example).

At the end of the day this is a statement vehicle more than anything and to my mind, there is a market for this especially in the affluent areas. I already started to see quite a few of these on the road in GTA in the past month or so. Kind of hard to spot them in the sea of RR Sports I see around these parts.

Same lower door creases, same short front and long rear overhangs. Same vaguely amorphous shape. The roof slopes a bit more on the RR. The front end is the area where they're differentiated.

And I did say similar, not identical.

This looks different:

So does this:

But RR is just following trends now.
