At least the new interior is now up to par for VW! Wonder what the GLI will have under the hood though?

The new Jetta looks fine inside and out. It looks like a good effort. Only two nit picks are the loss of the 1.8TSI and the wheel gap is noticeably larger than the previous generation. Makes it look like it's packing AWD or something.

It at least has some style...love it or hate it.

VW has ZERO. VW was out boring Toyota even before they went all predator grill.

Plain and fugly are just different ends of poor styling.

While the 2019 is objectively better than the 2017, I'm not a fan of the new grille. The 2017 looked fine.

Yeah I have to agree with being disappointed with the loss of the 1.8T, which isn't that old of an engine and I always thought a good balance of power and fuel economy.  No doubt the 1.4T is more fuel efficient but it's also hugely boring, much like the exterior styling.  I hate the rims but it's not like VW has a history of offering nice rims on vehicles.  I like that the interior is much better, but they took a step back with the torsion beam rear suspension which should be independent like the previous generation.  You can still get the manual in the top trims, so at least there is that.

It would be nice of them to offer the 2.0T from the Tiguan in the top trims. Would bridge the gap between the 1.4T and the upcoming GLI nicely.

I think the 2019 looks pretty nice but I hate the grille (as on most newer VWs, Golf excepted).

Don't forget most 2017's also have the 1.4t. The 1.8 litre was reserved for the Highline trim.

The new Jetta is one of the most boring looking things around.  Right down there with the Nissan Versa.  That potato masher grill is just awful!   :P

I gotta go with you on this one. Especially as I would have to walk by the front end predator face every day as it would be in my garage. A little plain is way better than fell off the ugly tree and hit every branch with its face ugly.
Lighten up Francis.....

When was the Jetta ever exciting to look at? People act surprised that nothing has changed. 90% of the people out there don't give a :censor: and just want a car that takes them from A to B.

Was gonna say. The Mk4 looked good in its day.

My issue with the Jetta is that it's trying to do simple styling (character lines and profile) with exciting (grill, hood lines) and the result is not very cohesive.

Yes!  Loved my MK4.  It wasn't "exciting" to look at, but it was definitely unique in style at that time.
