Topic: Gas tank cap

I used to drive a Ford Escape 2011 model I think which did not have the conventional gas cap.  Filling up gas was a breeze.  Every time I wanted to fill up gas I would just stick the nozzle into the filler tube and fill up.  No cap to remove.  Why can't all vehicle manufacture have this?    Which other Ford models have this?

My previous car I would just push a button and the window would go down but this one has this crank think and my arm gets tired.

My previous car I would just push a button and the door(s) would unlock but now I have to fumble with my keys, try to get in into this tiny slot and if I have another passenger, reach over to unlock their door.

My previous car I could select the radio station by pushing buttons but now I have keep rotating this dial back and forth, takes forever.

lol    I just hate using a pipe wrench to remove the gas cap.

Potential for leaks under hard driving and more frequently, leftover diesel dribbles on your paint/shoes when removing the nozzle. I had this on the Fords in Europe and thought it wasn't an improvement at all.

Wifes F-150 has this idiocy. It froze one winter after she washed it. Gimme a proper cap every time.

You need to leave the nozzle in the car for 5 second after you've finished fueling, there's no leaning then. I like the capless system but I've never had it fail or freeze

My '09 Escape hybrid has this.  I've had no trouble with it and it's very convenient.  It seems to have anti-vandalism provisions, but to gas up from a jerry can you have to use a special filler funnel that's mounted beside the jack.  I don't know how you'd siphon from it, but I'm not into that anyway.

One nice thing is that I've never gotten an annoying Check Engine warning from the capless system, as I have with cars with gas caps when you don't screw them on tight enough.

And congratulations for daring to mention an Escape, which is far from an enthusiasts car, on this forum.

Actually other manufacturers have it now.   I've seen it on others recently.

Sold a Mustang to a guy last year, he insisted we replace the missing gas cap before he took delivery.  It took a long time to convince him that was the way it was supposed to be.
