369lb-ft torque? I like that... I love the trend of bringing back the wagon these days.

Drove my dad's Golf TDI the other day. Felt incredibly torquey with a "mere" 236 lb-ft. Can't imagine what this Benz will be like.

AWESOME!

0-60km/h in 2 seconds?  ;D

They better bring this thing to the Toronto show.

As you can see, it was on the show floor in Montreal, at the back of the M-B stand, and unlocked. Lovely all-black interior with silver "metal" trim. Me liked a lot. If VW buys back my Golf, me knows what to do  ;)

Almost certainly my next car. Surprised that it's diesel only with the current trend in focusing on more fuel efficient turbo gas engines. Either way, make mine a tanzanite blue with the air suspension and burmester sound system.

Would be neat if they also offered the new E-class wagon with a diesel.

What would be Reliability on a Benz Diesel 4matic?  I'm not familiar with high end cars..

The MB GLK250 with the 2.1 diesel seems pretty solid.

Aside from issues with the single row timing chain in higher mileage units.  Europe has had this engine since 2008.  Apparently, 50k miles and above, this happens (note all the chain bunched up on the right side):

Oh, and the timing chain is at the back of the engine apparently...

Is that for the GLK gas model as well?

Thanks, issue sounds pretty expensive.  An it doesn't look like the used review here found any issues.  Maybe due to lack of sales with the diesel...

Well, I looked at information in Europe & Australia since they had that engine since 2008.  Early units had injector issues, but MB fixed that in mid-2012.  Therefore, the injector issues wouldn't exist for North American models with this engine.

However, the timing chain issue with them is pretty well known in the UK & Australia.  Scary part is they are selling these engines in commercial applications (Sprinter, Metris).  I'd pony up for the 3.0L V6 Diesel personally.

That engine only comes in the larger SUVs though.

so it seems like the GLK350 (gas) would be more reliable than the GLK250...

My comment was more related to the Sprinter.  Yes, unfortunately one would have to step up to the GLE or GLS to get that engine (OM642), which wasn't without it's problems in the early going.

It's also too bad MB only sticks the OM651 in the E-Class now.

In the U.S. they even put that engine in the GLE. No GLE350d south of the border.

Wow.  That. Really. Sucks.  I looked it up and they dare call it a GL300d.  Lol.

Here's what really is silly:

EPA ratings for the GLE300d (2.1L I4 diesel, 7 speed auto) - 10.7L/100km city, 8.1L/100km highway
NRCAN ratings for the GLE350d (3.0L V6 diesel, 9 speed auto) - 10.1L/100km city, 8.0L/100km highway.

I think the Americans are getting robbed on this one.

Correct.

would you know the percentage of engines that are affected?
It seems to becoming a common issue (timing chain) in Europe as these engines have been sold there since 2008.  I don't have an exact percentage, but a lot of them are failing despite being maintained well.  A lot of the Indy shops in the UK are saying they have seen and can expect a few of these a week to come in now given the volumes sold of these engines and the mileage/age.
