"The crossover formerly known as the Infiniti EX, and presently known as the Infiniti QX50, isn’t exactly a crossover at all. It’s not tall, blocky or towering. A person of average height can see the top of its roof. Entry occurs after stepping in over a thin sill, followed by a plunk down, as if boarding a sedan. Seated, you’re not left towering over the road, or surrounded by excessive space."

There is a reason for that.  It's essentially a 5 door version of the previous G37 sedan.  In Japan, Nissan marketed the G37 as the Nissan Skyline and they offered a sedan, coupe and this 5 door version.

if that's the threshold for "cross over", a LOT of the little ones wouldn't be called CUVs at all..

like,  HR-v, CX-3, Imprezza XV, bmw X1, Buick .....thing, Benz GLA, etc.

almost all of these are the same height as my VW Rabbit.

Driving thrills makes my wallet lighter.. and therefore makes me faster because i'm shedding weight... :D

the updated QX50 wheelbase is longer than the EX37 (updated for the Chinese market in 2014). However, I am not sure whether the QX50 we get is still made in Japan or in China (maybe someone can find out)...

FYI they updated EX into QX for the chinese when they started building QX50 in china since 2014.

I can see the relative bargain in the base trim given the power and performance of this rig.
The dated infotainment system and the centre stack will be updated in the near future when a full model change comes.  Who knows, they might add option for a turbo 4 like many competitors are doing.

Although the dash has aged extremely well, Infiniti really should of redesigned it as it's going on close to 10 years.

I'm very sure they will offer a turbo 4 in the next gen.  The refresh of the Q50 and the new Q60 will over a base turbo 4.

"Elderly passengers and clumsy canines will find entry and exit a breeze, the seating position is barely higher than that of a big family car"

I'm not sure I agree with this statement at all (at least the people part). I find the older I get the more I prefer SUV seat heights.....much easier in and out than "falling" down into a sedan height seat and then having to struggle up out of the car. My dad drove a Murano all through his 80's and always thought it was much easier to get in and out of compared to a sedan. Hip height seats are much better for anybody with mobility issues.
Old Jag convertible...one itch I won't have to scratch again.
