In comparison, a base crew cab 4x4 diesel F-250 is $55,949 before incentives.

Ya, I dunno.  A GM 2500 Duramax Crew Cab 4x4 WT lists for 62K and change.  Mind you, GM has 10K off right now which puts it right in the ball park of the XD.  I know which model I would choose.

I'm not sure why you guys are surprised by this pricing.  3/4 tonne diesels are even more money, though probably in the same ballpark with incentives.  The Ram EcoDiesel might be a little cheaper after incentives - but probably not significantly cheaper for a crew cab 4x4 version.  Plus who knows if Nissan will incentivize the truck like the others do...

That being said, I'm still not seeing the target market for this truck.  In the half-tonne vs HD truck Venn diagram, how big is the overlap of consumers who want marginally more towing and payload capacity than a half-tonne (but way less than a 3/4 tonne), but with better ride quality than a 3/4 tonne?  Unless the mileage is really that awesome with the Cummins (and since the damn thing weighs well over 7000 lbs, I kind of doubt it), I can't see this being a big seller.

I'm more optimistic about the regular Titan though (and the non-diesel XD).  With a revised 5.6L (finally - after only 12 years!) and hopefully much slimmer weight (and price), maybe it can carve a niche in the half-tonne market.  Let's hope Nissan fixed the reliability issues that plagued the old Titan though!

I just had no idea about trucks...$55k for the price of entry seems like a lot of money, though it appears perhaps not that much comparatively.

It's not a bad deal, if you buy vehicles by the kg.  ;D

Compared to 3/4 tons diesels it not a bad price
Is this made for someone heading to Florida with a 5th wheel ?

Keep in mind that entry level in this case is still a crew cab 4x4 where other companies offer RWD and regular/extended cabs.

i'll have to look up what is included in the s package... to answer some of the price comparison questions, at msrp subtract incentives (today)... so room still to discount, but so should the asking on the nissan i would hope.

ram 1500 ecodiesel crew 4x4 ST (with a couple small groups) - 42200 (and 0% fianancing)
ram 2500 cummins crew 4x4 ST (with similar) - 57700

agree with a few others... nice enough truck, pricing isn't too far off, but i just don't think this will hit the numbers needed to make it a worthwhile venture at this point.

Ram is offering (in Calgary anyway) $12,000-$16,000 in discounts total on their trucks right now.  A Ram1500 SLT 4x4 Crew Ecodiesel can be had for under $40,000

yep... as i said, that is no dealer discount on my number... on an slt, there is 5g's or so of profit, so yeah, a base slt crew 4x4 can be had (if they get all the discounts available) for under 40000.

just wanted to keep things controlled since i don't know their mark-up, or willingness to discount.

but yeah... if it's the fuel economy and no need to tow more than about 7000lbs... i just see no reason to go titan... and if you really don't want the big trucks... the gm twins would probably be a similar comparison. solely comes down to the towing... and as we all know, most trucks are hauling air or <1000lbs of payload.
