I think the consensus is that it will be a turbocharged version of Mazda's current 2.5 but I guess we'll see.
Yep. From everything I read, Mazda didn't want to continue using a Ford engine and rather than develop their own V6, it's probably more cost effective to take the Skyactiv 2.5 and set it up for turbocharging.
A new V6 would be pretty much limited to the CX-9 unless Mazda has other larger products in the pipeline so I can understand why they would use a turbo four.
Agreed. The only other product that they could potentially have used the V6 in would be the Mazda 6. That would satisfy the crowd that wants a larger/more powerful engine option. Although, I bet overall take rate would be low.
Although, with the news of a turbo-4, here's hoping for the return of the Mazdaspeed6 AWD with a 6 speed manual. And even better if the bring a wagon variant of it.
