Our Accord Coupe was dead reliable too.  2 sway bar bushings.  That's it for unscheduled maintenance.

My family had 4 accords. 89, 96, and a pair of 2003's. None required anything other than scheduled maintenance growing up other than the 96 neeeded a new automatic transmission at about 250,000 kms. I'd say, excusable given 3x per year family trips 8 hours away with 4 people on board and a thule rack on the top.

Both dad and moms 2003 models are retiring this year, rusty. But mechanically, solid gold.

I had a 240sx for 7 years that i beat the living tar out of daily, and it was just as reliable.

Funny you should mention the 1989 Accord. It was one of the very few to get a "Not Recommended" from CR. It had a litany of reliability issues. Lady O's best friend had one, and it was very trouble prone. That doesn't mean all of them were, but a fair number of them had issues.

And that's the point. In aggregate, some cars are more reliable than others, no question. But one person's experience isn't necessarily going to hold up for all owners. It takes a lot of feedback in order to get a clear picture.

And more to the point, past performance isn't necessarily a good indicator of future performance.

I've owned a number vehicles of various brands over my 27 year driving career......and personally, I'll continue to stick with the Japanese brands.  They've treated me so well over the years with virtually no issues year after year of ownership.  Worst experience ever was a brand new 98 Worfsburg Jetta that left me continuously stranded within the first year of ownership.  Are the current VW's the same?  Perhaps not, but after spending many years with a brand or two that has been bulletproof, why would I switch?  As much as I detest my wife's current Civic, we've had zero issues with it after over 3.5 years of ownership.  The S2000 after 7 years of ownership and my previous MR2 after 13 years of ownership were no different.  YMMV.

My parents are seriously considering a CPO 2013 RDX. They are a steal on the used market.

Hmm yes, seems like you can get a Tech pkg in the mid-high 20s. Pretty good. Should hold its value quite well from here on out as basically a Fancy V6 CRV. And if you do keep it for the long haul not much to be concerned about reliability wise I'd wager.

This car feels like it was designed to simply give the people what they want...and turns out people want it. Neck and neck with the Q5 YTD.

I'd include it in the mix when I start looking but the lack of a true AWD system gives me pause.
Old Jag convertible...one itch I won't have to scratch again.
