Aside from our upcoming maintenance, we have a comparison planned with an updated compact sedan competitor that was right on the Corolla’s heels in our last big comparison in the segment.

Are you guys already getting 2016 Civics?

I won't ruin it, but it's not the Civic.

however, I discovered a neat feature available on the AM/FM radio: pausing/recording.
That is a neat feature, kinda like PVR for the radio...but I wonder how much attention it would take to figure out how to record/replay?  Imagine recording a song, then during a commercial switching stations, then switching back...

...why not just use an iPod ::)

This, however, is so amazing for a Corolla - I wish the one I drive had that.  Reminder for when to change out the wiper blades?!  Brakes?  this was only available in much pricier cars until...well...very recently.

I wonder what the tire reminder is like with respect to winter/OEMs?  i.e. can you have two schedules?

'16 Cruze?
I'd take the '16 Civic, '16 Corolla, '16 Mazda3, and potentially even the '16 Sentra before I'd take the '16 Cruze.

Your post is as biased as mine.  "Hey, there's new competition!"  Yup.  Thanks.

I bet it's more of a "items to inspect" versus replace.

I'd still appreciate something that tracks usage - even if it's set to b!tch at you to replace your wiper blades every 12 months, I'd like to know when that date is :)  No, I am not crafty enough to use a calendar.

The maintenance menu is cool as long as you can choose what to enable/disable and intervals. The radio "PVR" feature I have thought would be useful....rewind something you miss on the radio (ie. traffic), like on TV at home. The rest of the infotainment seems class average at best. But then again, people who buy Corolla's aren't exactly cutting edge techno geeks. Their biggest concern usually is how many shades of beige does it come in or can a warning on the GPS be set so I don't come within 20 km/h of the posted speed limit.

You set the distance and date reminder. There are 3 "Personal" ones that you can rename so one says "Winter Tire". On my Prius, I entered all the intervals when I picked up the car so it's ready for me :). I've already changed the wipers and AT fluid (not on the schedule but recommended by the dealer and more technical owners).

It'll remind you when the time or km is up every time you start the car until you press "Do Not Show This Reminder Again". For oil changes and services, it'll display the dealer (if you inputted your preferred dealer) with address/number and the ability to call via BT.

Bruins7, they're all disabled by default unless you enable them yourself.

Thanks for that. Like I said cool feature. I wish this is something more cars begin to offer. Much better than the standard "Service" light for oil changes or "Service A1, B2, etc" that our old Acura would display

Fancy!  My Daily Driver 2010 Corolla...well, I honestly don't even know what it does...I've never seen a light on or any sort of reminder other than the sticker that Wietzes puts on the windshield :P

I can see why the service reminder would be good for most drivers - nice feature.  Toyota has really upped the content on the Corolla and held the pricing well into the "value zone."

7.5yrs with our own 'Rolla and the extremely positive experience that has been would have us probably replacing it with another if we needed.

Almost a no brainer since the new one is even better.

I was very impressed with my two weeks with it.

have never played around with the maintenance screen, always service every 6k so I just follow the odometer. Will have to play around with that screen.

The record function on the radio is great - like how it pauses while you are on the phone and picks up where you left off - nice feature.

Overall very impressed with our Corolla - took it on a 2k northern MB road trip, drove great, smooth over the rough roads and no back aches - even after a 6.5 hr driving stint.

This new one is 10000x better than the previous generation in terms of styling, handling and comfort. I noticed that the steering was the most improved part.

pretty tough to go wrong here...while it's certainly no sport sedan (it wasn't made to be one), it looks to have what most people are looking for, and is even available in pretty well equipped trims too.
