The big mid size coupe is a market that is very, very small. They used to in demand for style reasons. That has gone away for most folks. What you left with is something not sporty but not practical either. And the style associated with the 70s and 80s. Small market.

I was always puzzled why they didn't offer a fastback Miata.
Perhaps that's what this 'tease' is of - not the RX at all, but instead a fastback Miata.  You're so smart, SirO!  How'd you get to be so smart?

While I agree that I'd prefer it not to simply be a Mazda 6 Coupe, the fact remains that I can't see Mazda launching another dedicated platform.  So, either a coupe based on a FWD model (likely the 6) or an MX-5 coupe. It looks too big to be the latter, so the former is more likely.

Trust me, I hope I'm wrong!

If it is a Mazda 6 based coupe, perhaps also including the AWD system that the Japanese model is available with would make it more palatable to the enthusiast.

Well considering the Toyota collaboration, it could be Mazda's take on the FRS? Food for thought.
