What kind of engine revs that 8 speed/3.23 combo makes on the highway?  Must be little more than idle.  I'd save the $2700. for the 6.2 and go for the 5.3 with a 3.73.  That would be a much more useful combination for normal driving and towing.

For towing the 6.2 is a much better engine, makes way more power than the 5.3 without having to rev the ever loving bejesus out of it.

For heavy towing it definitely is but not too many folks pull 10-12000 lbs.

Even with 6-8000lbs, the 6.2 would have to work much less harder to move the unit from a stop and to keep it going down the highway.
And it is match with an 8 speed which will help

Yeah, I think that the 8 speed is coming with the 5.3 for '16.

Friend(ish) has a 6.2, claims he gets low mid 20's on the highway (11's or better in metric), maybe he does, I call BS...I never believe Chevy guys.  Expensive optional engine though, the E/B is only $900 more than the 5.0 and no slouch compared to this 6.2. Won't sound as good though.

Nice review. I really like this truck, and I was surprised at the efficiency of the 6.2L/8 speed; I averaged 12.8L in a similar truck (GMC version) a few weeks ago, mostly empty rush hour GTA commuting and one loaded cross town drive.

AB, no, it doesn't go into V4 at stops, only while moving.
I wonder why not ?
Does the Chevy have lined wheel wells like the GMC ?
12.8 wow , I would like to see what the 5.3 would get with an 8 speed

I had a 2015 Silverado with 5.3L and 6 speed for 24 hours and I averaged 10.4L/100kms 50/50 city highway.
I'd be curious how well the 4.3L V6 would do with an 8 speed.

The trailer weighs about 3400 lb loaded. We have a sway bar / damper setup which dampens side-to-side oscillations or "wagging" and lessens the jolt under braking.  The trailer tows quite easily behind our Q5 and is just at the point where if it weighed any more we might consider trailer brakes.
