Tesla owner in Ottawa. No mention on the range on a typical -20C Winter Ottawa morning
Watch this video and let me know what you think:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XZ5PqPeOPT0The Tesla Model S does not suffer from winter range as much as other electric cars due to the heat pump that recycles heat from the drive unit and inverter back into the battery and cabin. I discussed this with a fellow Tesla owner who drives 250 km daily commute in all weather conditions, he sees at most 20% difference in summer/winter range on extremes of hot/cold.
Whereas other electric cars like my Smart ED do have a 50% difference from summer to winter driving range. Then again, my commute is only 20 minutes, so this is barely long enough to use a fraction of my battery, so I NEVER suffer with range anxiety, and my car is toasty warm far faster than all the other gas cars around me!
Oh yeah, one more point, all of the destinations we have in Ontario for our weekly winter road trips (we travel 500 km per week in the winter) have chargers at local hotels or restaurants. I'll keep notes on my experiences and write them in my show/shine posts.
