That's some really impressive fuel economy for the GTI. Not really much of the down side to this choice at all. If there's a better combination of enthusiast fun and practicality, I'm all ears.

If going with 5 door Autobahn with performance package and leather + nav, a Golf R is "only" a few grand more.  I haven't driven that yet, but AWD would be a bonus in winter for me.  However, there are a few reviews that I've read that say a PP GTI is actually more fun to drive than a Golf R.   ???

7.8L/100km sounds like an incredible fuel consumption over a week, for a car like this, driven like Wing implied. I hope it's not an error somewhere... If this is correct, it would be one more reason to keep it at the top of my shopping list for the next car (5-door Autobahn w/DSG and Nav).

Did the math at the pump today and it was 8.0 but who knows how full it was when I got it.   So computer is probably correct,  either way 7.8 or 8.0 good enough.

FYI nav is standard on the '16 Autobahn.

Unfortunately for '16 the Canadian PP model gets the tech package standard. Assuming the base price remains the same you're looking at about $37,xxx + freight for a cloth seat six-speed five-door PP or pretty much exactly $40k once you add leather and DSG. So while an R will be $40k base, a PP GTI with leather will be $38,xxx but will have a sunroof and the tech package. Add the tech package to the R and the delta is about $4k.

What's the base price for '16 Autobahn? For '15 Navi was a $695 option (Technology Package). Price before fees and taxes was $35K w/DSG and Tech.

Yep. Even 8L/100k I would call very good in my books for this car. Now, it depends of course on the driving style/pattern from person to person, but nevertheless it's pretty good as I don't think you are exactly hypermiling during testing.

LOL... I often do 10-11L/100km in the Focus, while wife gets less in the Outlander (3L V6, 4WD).

I don't think '16 prices have been released yet.

Yeah, modern sporty cars can still be efficient too.  My current tank of premium in the WRX is being sipped at 7.0L/100km after a few hundred kms of back road driving with 5 people aboard and the a/c on full blast over the weekend.  I regularly see low 8s average with a mix of city/hwy driving.

Sounds familiar. I just replaced my 2009 Sonata GLS with....a 2014 Sonata GLS! This was an Avis rental return that came in at practically 50% of the new price ($16,000) once fee gouging on new is accounted for. It still handles like a wet noodle, but fits my admittedly considerable frame in a way no Corolla ever can. Thus, like you and Jaeger , I bought what worked and profited from the depreciation this time.

Paid $25,700 (On The Road) in Ontario for a new 2013 Sonata.
Yes, an example of one, but either you paid 62% of a new 2013 Sonata if your $16,000 included all taxes and fees, or 70% of a new Sonata when HST is added to the $16,000.

That's for a GL model or with very large discounts. My GLS retailed for $25,999 new + $1,760 freight + GST + whatever extra fees the dealer could squeeze out of the deal. That's very close to $30,000 even in Alberta without Provincial tax. Thus "practically 50%" at $16,000 all in. In Calgary that's the going price for a 2014 GL which listed for $2,000 less new. Also, the new 2015 GLS has no sunroof which is another factor I considered in this decision. Most rental cars are GL models, which made this GLS a much more compelling purchase decision, as I'm used to having a few nice options. Below is an Ontario ad for the same car as mine but with 3,500 MORE kms. My $16,00 all in also included a high end remote start that I bargained into the deal.

Finally, LOVE THAT GTI !!!

I'm surprised it's not just evaporating away!  :rofl2:

To clarify, mine is a 2013 GLS model - so for $25,700 OTR, you are saying I got a screaming deal.
Yes, no sunroof for 2015 GLS Sonata, but to tell you the truth, I leave my sunshade closed most of the time anyway.

Mississauga Hyundai is currently advertising 2015 Sonata GLS for $21,995 + HST. Same place I picked up my 2013 GLS.
