Forget about that GTD engine, I want the diesel engine out of that new Passat europe gets, the 2.0 BITDI SCR 4 Motion model.  It has 240 hp and 369 torques, all out of a ultra efficient 2.0L turbo diesel engine.

I'd be up for that. The likelihood of seeing this come to fruition is on par with finding a polka dot unicorn. I would equally love to see a suite of compact wagons come about. I'd love to see Subaru bring over the Levorg even in gas or diesel. Frankly, I'd love to get out of my SUV for something smarter to haul around kids.

Remember that VW previously said we might get the GTD but has since reneged, presumably due to emissions regulations.

Conceivably VW could offer the GTD here once they figure out how to package the urea tank with the IRS (which they are being forced into in Europe anyways).

I concur...without the hi-po variant, this wouldn't be worth VW's while...unless it replaces the 150hp variant. ...and ain't nothing worth having in this world comes free :(

I personally think there's a chance we would see something like this in North America.

If the next gen Audi A4 comes with the high output 2.0 TDI, certifying this engine for the other models such as Golf GTD/Tiguan/Q3 would make a lot more sense

While we are on the topic, the VW AMAROK uses the same TDI engine putting out 177 hp with twin turbos. Manufactured in Argentina, this 4 seater truck with 4motion is common in central and south America, Australia, South Africa etc. Reviews from around the world sing the praises of the AMAROK TDI.

Whether it is the GTD Wagon, TDI Passat, the TDI Tiguan or a new offering like the TDI AMAROK, VW marketing geniuses consistently wait for the big players to develop markets, while their products are introduced woefully late, satisfying a small group of patient VW lovers. ???

Seriously, as much as I want to read the article I won't.  Tired of VW dangling these carrots in front of our collective faces and then yanking them away.  I'd rather not be tempted this time around.

We may get this engine in the rumoured, upcoming, American-sized 7-seater Tiguan.

The Amarok is sold in Europe, btw.
