Not sure how you pick up on all these details and somehow still write succinctly - nicely done.  The Civic couldn't have been an easy one to find 'issues' with, but dead-on with the "avoid the 2012" as it's a piece of sh!t comparatively.

Ya weird F'up with the 2012. "Who was a sleep at the helm here ?" I'd be asking if I were Honda management. As great as the Civic is, I find it long in the tooth and in need of a major change. No more revamps required.

As far as demographics here my mom went with the Mazda3 vs the Civic late 2012 based on the civic dash. She couldn't get over the digital speedometer in the background while the analogue looking RPM gauge showed more predominately. I doubt she cares about having an RPM gauge considering most of her live only cars with manual featured one and the ear and feel gave one an idea of engine revs on automatics.

I have a friend with a 2012. Lots of room but lots of plastic even on the top of the line with leather. I think the most annoying part of this car are the constant downshifts (non cvt) even on the slightest grade.

I have Civic 2012. Nothing wrong with it, a bulletproof vehicle. It has 66000 on it and not a single thing is broken. Besides, it's a most fuel  efficient non-hybrid car on highway. I drive from Ottawa to Guelph very often, just follow the traffic. Average fuel economy - 4.77 l/100 km. And that considering permanent heavy traffic in GTA. One full tank is enough for round trip - 1090 km.

I'm calling bs - 50L tank, so even at 4.77L/100km, that's 1,048km.  You'd have to run 'er dry to get even close to that.

If you let fuel run slowly, Civic's tank get extra 7.5 l of fuel to the brim, everybody knows that. I do that because I live in Orleans where gas is always 5-6 cents cheaper than anywhere else. By the way, in my second car, Toyota Corolla 2014 it will take extra 11 l to fill it up.

A dependable dull plastic fantastic appliance...this has got to be the most Corolla like generation of Civics ever. Thank god a redesign is coming soon that looks promising.

The wifey has been driving her loaded EX-L for almost 3.5 years now and it's been absolutely trouble free.  From a reliability standpoint, it's been bulletproof.  As I've mentioned in a couple of other threads, the NVH is horrible.  I think my S2000 with the roof down is almost as quiet..  The Infotainment system also sucks and cumbersome to use.  Fuel economy has been pretty good though and my wife averages 6.9L /100kms with a mix of highway and city driving.  It's not my type of vehicle, but I can easily see why so many people buy them.  I'd have a hard time recommending against one.

Yeah there has been a lot of hate for the 2012. Mine has been bulletproof as well .The 3 years i have owned mine the car has averaged 7.0 litres per 100 km for 65000 km.
As Canuck has said the NVH is not very good and this is why Honda took so much criticism.
The cheapness doesn't bother me as much as some people because the the car has been very reliable. And oh yeah mine is appliance white.
