It is necessary to take a view of this from a global perspective.

I think many of you all forget that the 1,0 litre is popular in other countries because it falls under a much lower tax band under 1000cc and just 108 g/km of CO² in the 125PS version tested here. There is a 100PS version that falls into the lowest tax band of just 99 g/km, probably not coincidence. Ownership costs such as tax and insurance are based on these figures.

In fact, all 9 powerplants offered on the Focus in Europe are turbocharged 1 or 1,5 litre petrols or diesel. There is a 2 litre TDCi for the power-hungry.
