A lot of decent competitors in this SUV field.
The only Highland version that's a standout for me is the highbrid.
The non hybrid just gets lost in the crowd.

in the paragraph referring to the Sorento and Santa Fe XL features that was not mentioned was the fact they also give you an additional 2 years/ 40k km more basic warranty too.  You can get that on the Highlander but its an additional $1669 for the Gold plan.

Why would one  need that?

Highlanders are sold out.  Can't get them.  They increasing production by 35K units but they need 100K.

Extended warranties are usually a waste on Toyota products.  Would have been a waste on our Corolla.

Extended warranty on Toyota maybe. Apparently not a waste on Hyundai. Friends 2013 Elantra engine starting ticking at 130,00Km dealer informs him that the engine needs to be rebuilt.
Since he does high km he decided to get extended warranty from new up to 170,000Km which saved him some coin. Warranty covered new engine. Apparently known issue that has since been resolved.

IMO extended warranties is a marketing ploy and kicks the can down the road in an attempt to boost short term sales targets. Perhaps the uninformed car buying public buys it, but I don't.

If this was a FGC an extended warranty would be a requirement....it was a waste in a Toyota car for sure.

Would have been good value on the last two Camrys I had, '04 and '08.

These big "mid sized" SUVs look a lot like minivans without sliding doors, which would be more convenient, but apparantly not cool.

a lack of steering feel makes negotiating corners with any enthusiasm a bit of a guessing game as far as how the front tires are interacting with the asphalt.

large SUVs like this have no business being negotiated with "enthusiasm" in corners.
it's an SUV.  I still fail to understand when reviews talk about this.   Handling for emergency situations I get, but talking about the lack of sports car feeling in SUVs seems a little silly.

I've seen what happens to people who try to negotiate with "enthusiasm" and it usually doesn't turn out so great.   It's like reviews complaining trucks drive too "truck like" or a Wranglers road handling aren't great.

This is what can happen if you try and play "sports car" with most SUVs and I've seen it a few times

If you want a SUV that handles, you're looking at the wrong product.  You'd want a Porsche Cayenne or a Jeep GC SRT8.

Chess is a sport too.  ;)
Not every sport involves fast turns.
