My autonomous car will have runflats and the route computer will not permit it to choose travel  a route where it would drive beside an unprotected drop.

And any self respecting autonomous car owner will have hacked it so that it knows that all other humans are inferior and worthy of death or injury.   ;)

But it is a case that Asimov would have made into a story.
