F1 cars in the beginning of the 1980s were making well over 1000hp with about the same size engine and 4 cylinders....
Lighten up Francis.....

I love emerging comments that pretty soon the pace cars will have more power than the race cars. Personally, Nissan's 'innovation' does't compel me to watch Le Mans. Starting to remind me of university-level fuel efficiency contests. Who wants to watch ugly tubes like this run around a track all day?  :P

True, but those engines also weight well in excess of 100 kg. This thing is a third of the weight of some of those engines, and smaller overall in dimensions. That's pretty cool I reckon. You could conceivably put this thing in a bike!

As for the diminishing power of race cars overall, I agree. It's bloody horrible seeing them all neutered in the name of cost-cutting and economy.

Yup.  Forget putting a Hayabusa engine in a Smart.  Let's put one of these in a Smart, or heck, even a Hayabusa.

I have a CBR600RR here we could use as a donor chassis. Anyone know someone at NISMO?

I thought racing was supposed to improve the breed, not have to worry about pit strategy and fuel economy....'tis a sad day.

Maybe Nissan could bring us a 1000kg Miata-like sporting machine with similar tech?  And yeah, I want one of those engines for a motorcycle.

The IDx might actually get built if the creative types within Nissan have their way. And if you look at the Cube and Juke, those creatives tend to have some decent political pull within the Japanese automaker.

I agree, not a fan of this.
