Thought it was a Modus?  But yeah, a Scenic makes sense.

Early Golf diesels used to do that, not from worn rings but some oil leak somewhere...the crankcase ventilation system IIRC that sucked all the engine oil into the engine...needless to say the engine did not survive.  What years were the first golf diesel 77? 78?

After it overheated the carbureted V6 in my father in-law's boat began to diesel.  It ran at an idle but turning off the key and pulling the dead-man cord didn't do a thing.  It was then we decided to hop on the boat that was towing us back to shore.

The fuel shutoff on our Mitsubishi marine diesel in the cape islander was held by a spring until the valve was closed.

One day the spring broke and killed the fuel to the engine. My co worker jerry rigged it with an elastic band. That worked for a while, until it got too hot and broke. This killed the engine and we ended up on the rocks with a receding tide. It was a long day doing fibreglass repair until the tide could lift her again.

During one patch, my co worker decided we were working too slow and added a bunch of hardener to the resin and as it cured it caught fire. We got it out quick enough, but scorched the white paint. Between the list, the patches and the burn marks, the poor old boat looked like it had been through the battle of Jutland.
On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

Not all.  If you work in the oil patch, every site requires you to have one installed.

I was kidding....Id find it kind of weird to see a guarded, red missile switch on a BMW 328D  ;)

Lol.  I didn't read the sarcasm obviously.

I just watched the video.  Looks like someone got smart, put the car in a higher gear, held the brake and dumped the clutch.

Not sure I agree, he did that with one of the ladies standing in front of the car.

I don't think I've ever heard of diesel runaway from worn rings.
Heard of it from oil leaks into intakes, turbos or superchargers.

Or, like this entertaining one, with a frozen fuel rack

Oh yeah, diesels don't have an "ignition switch"  ;D

It wouldn't be an infinite loop.  The crankcase on a compact car diesel only holds so much oil.   When it runs out the engine will stop.... Permanently.
