Finally the VW bus is dead.
« on: December 09, 2013, 05:48:47 am »
How could one be a hippy any more?

Volkswagen Kombi: The end of the road

The Volkswagen T1, better known as the Kombi, has been on the world's roads since 1950 and became one of the symbols of an easy-going, simple way of life in the following decades.

The vehicle is now only built in Brazil where it is still used by thousands of small businesses, despite its simple design and functional performance.

But as Wyre Davies reports from Sao Paulo, Volkswagen is to stop making the Kombi and a motoring era is coming to an end.

From the BBC
The most radical revolutionary will become a conservative the day after the revolution.

what ever happened to the prototypes they had!
for years they talked about bringing it back.   Instead they gave a re-badged Caravan with the Routan.

Sad to see it go.  There is the Last Edition of 600 units.  Get it while it lasts.   If not, you can still buy the Lego T1 camper version.

This guy? Kind of a missed opportunity, I think.
On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

::) A similar Hi_Ace camper conversion took wifey and I all around Europe and parts of Turkey
for 23,000Miles in 4 and a half months many moons ago no problems except the skinny gear shift broke off in Paris...used several metal bars and a weld job to compensate they all tanked so drove it with a SHORTY SHIFTER  .....sold it back to the Dealership in Reading England afterwards for wot I paid..it woz disabled friendly (for the time) and he had a ready buyer.......Oh those were the DAZE!!!!..
The equivalent VW Combi Camper @ the time was 50% More POUNDS i.e $$$$'s

We were no HIPPIES but smooth suave EuroCanuck Campers :P dining on Baguettes Brandy and Pate and Vino stopping "rough" many a night...still have a "diary" first I ever penned somewhere in the Archives.....and some pics too..........

While we're talking about weird vans, has anyone ever looked at the engine in a Previa?  I've always been curious how it's set up...

The engine was laid over on it's side. The Previa was kind of an interesting van.
