Car seats...
« on: November 26, 2013, 11:04:49 am »
Might be OT, but what to do with OLD car seats??

I'm outside of Ottawa..   Thrift stores and recycling place won't take them.  No one I know needs one..

Throwing them in the garbage seems to be the only answer.

I leave the seats in the car when I sell it.  Seems like a lot of bother to go to, removing the seats.  And who would buy a used car with no seats in it?

My diesel car self-identifies as an electric vehicle.

We had to throw away a beautiful Mercedes infant car seat made my Britax thanks to no one being able to take or reuse it.  It's just the way it is.  It was just too old.

I have a couple of $300 Sunshine Kids car seats in great condition sitting in my garage right now.  They are going to get tossed, unless someone wants to drive by and pick them up  :)
Quality is never an accident; it is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction, and skillful execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives.

If you're talking kids car seats, what I did was advertise them on freecycle.

They do?  ???    Shows what I know....... Although, in fairness, my last experience in car seats was 20 years ago. ;D

Yep, on the back of the seat you'll see an expiry date somewhere. The typical car seats you buy at say Walmart usually have a 4-5 year expiry date from date of manufacture, higher end ones up to 8-9 years. It's basically the manufacturer saying that structurally the car seat will remain like new for that period of time, and beyond that the plastics start to degrade. Using expired car seats is an insurance no no if you were to get into an accident.
