At today's exchange rate, that makes it slightly cheaper than the $29,900 US price. They are gonna sell a lot of these. Too bad there won't be a regular hatch or a manual transmission though.

Agreed, Audi will sell boatloads of these at $30k. Audi has the benefit of platform sharing with other VAG models that BMW and MB don't enjoy to spread the costs.

Audi also seems to hitting the right cords with younger people. My teens and there friends speak highly of Audi design which bodes well for future buyers.

At least, we're not getting  on pricing, unlike Mercedes-Benz with the CLA. Both the A3 and CLA start at 29,900 US$, but the Benz is advertised in QC with a base price of 35,900$.

31k$ with all these features and the DSG = solid hit in the making.

I'd take a GLI over this for the manual transmission, only $27.6k full loaded. Admittedly it is a beautiful car.

that's true.  maybe because most their cars started out as FWD?   regardless,
it's a shame they aren't offering manual as VW/Audi make pretty decent manual gear boxes.  and already offer them on GTI/Golf R.

Unlike BMW and Mercedes, Audi does not have a history of using RWD platforms almost exclusively.

Understood...but that argument makes little sense to me.   That's like saying Hyundai shouldn't be held to the same standards as Toyota and Mazda b/c the Koreans have a history of producing crap in the 90s???

It's not like Audi is splashing "FWD!!!" all over their advertisements.  Their story is clearly centred around AWD (whether or not most consumers realize it's FWD-based).

There must be a very small percentage of people ordering manual transmissions these days.  Pretty soon all that we will have as choice for manual is the used auto market.

I wouldn't necessarily call it a new segment for Audi, more like a return to the one they left. This is probably the same size as the original A4, though I'm too lazy to even go to Wiki to find out.

I know one of the partners in the local Audi dealership, and he wouldn't order any manuals even if they were producing them.  In some models, yes, but in the "normal" line of cars like an A3, they just don't have any demand.  Not many people buying "luxury" makes anymore want DIY shifting.  Well, not totally true.  They don't mind DSG type transmissions, just keep it to two pedals.

TT-RS?  He was SO happy that Canada got the three pedal model.  He sold them fast and every customer wanted the manual.  A4?  Not so.

BMW will be platform sharing more between itself and the MINI brand in the future. MB and Infiniti seem to be tying up quite well.

The price you stated is the base price for the '13 model. You said "fully loaded." There's three packages to choose from on top of the base model.

Why would they not bring a manual version on their cheapest and sportiest sedan? Kinda sad. It's a nice looking car and at 31K pretty exciting stuff.
