So basically all engines are nominated.  :)

Except Nissan engines.  And the one that is (Pathfinder hybrid) has absolutely no chance of winning.
Really sad for me, considering that Nissan used to be a company that was all about powertrains.  Now they are just happy living off their past engines. Maybe all their R&D money is going into CVT development...

1.6L 109HP engine for the new Versa?  Why not?
1.8L ~130HP engine for the remodelled Sentra?  Good enough!
Same 2.5L 170HP engine for the new Rogue?  Damn straight!

As for the Ward's list, I'm interested to see if any of the Ford Ecoboost engines or GM's new Silverado engines get the nod.

This list is a joke.  One year an engine will be on the list.  The next year it won't.  Then the following year it will be back on the list.  Same engine.

It's a silly list.  There are MANY engines that aren't on this list that are fantastic. 5.0 Coyote, anyone?

this list is all about engeneering right, and nothing to do with reliability and real world application?

I've never really understood this list. What makes an engine best?  Most power? Best fuel economy? Ability to go 500,000 kms without blowing up?

I thought this was the engine that was the biggest technological breakthrough and brought something new to the market. If it was the best engine in its class, by all measurable parameters, give it the crown and plaque, this is just stupid, they invited everyone.

Volkswagen's 1.4 TSI engine won this award one year. Those engine tend to fail somewhere between 25,000 to 80,000km. So clearly longevity is not a criteria.
