"It was rumoured GM could crib the same 3.0L oil burner for its full-size trucks" doubt that will happen since unlike the 2.8 the 3.0 eco diesel (A630/L630) DOHC  has proprietary Multijet2 technology owned outright by Fiat S.p.A. Can't see Fiat even wanting to license this as it is a competitive edge.
