First Drive: 2014 Buick LaCrosse

2014 upgrades aside, we were surprised at how well this big Buick rides and handles ' but we shouldn't have been.

A very positive review - hard to reconcile with the supposed institutional hatred by autos.ca of all things GM in general, and all things Buick in particular.

Seems like a very nice car as well.  While my funds would not be spent here, the car does present as a very capable cruiser - luxurious and spacious - without driving like a complete marshmallow.  If I got stuck with one as a rental, I wouldn't feel like I was getting stuck with one as a rental.
Wokeism is nothing more than the recognition and opposition of bigotry in all its forms.  Bigots are predictably triggered.

That interior is awesome.

Hard to believe that this car is the successor to the ultra mediocre Allure.

It's not, it replaces the Lucerne, though I see the point you are making.

OliverD is correct the Lacrosse replaces the Allure.  The Allure was known as the Lacrosse in other markets, but Buick decided to rename it for Canada because it has a different meaning in French (to be swindled).  So this Lacrosse doesn't replace the Lucerne, just the Lucerne was dropped, and now this is the Buick flagship.

Have always liked it, but don't see a reason to get this 2014 refresh over a 2011, or 2012, the thousands in depreciation is great for used buyers like me.

I wonder if Buick will get a RWD flagship sedan.  The XTS will eventually become a RWD, so will that platform stay exclusive to Cadillac or will Buick make use of it.  I guess we shall see...

Definitely a more polished vehicle compared to the GM's of old. Good review, just one quirk. Hardly call that minor raise in the rear trunk "an integrated spoiler".

I would have included the Ford Taurus and Kia Cadenza as competitors to this Buick.  But at 40 large if I was to buy a large sedan, my money would be on the Avalon or ES.

I would never spend 40k on any mainstream car.  I am not saying a Toyota Avalon, Buick Lacrosse, etc.  isn't worth it.  Just for my money, for that kind of money, I would get a CPO luxury vehicle, like a CTS, 5 series, or an Avant

hell, you can even get a very, very tidy S6 for that money with a V10...
If driving an Alfa does not restore vitality to your soul, then just pass the hospital and park at the morgue to save everyone time.

Now drives a Jaaaaaaag...and thus will not pay for anything during an outing...but it is OK, because....I drive a Jaaaaaag.

Guess we must be looking at different sources.  I see a 2010 Audi A6 with the 3.0L Turbo with 28k for $40k.  And I meant $40k tax in, so an A4 Avant that goes for $35k is more accurate...

that is what I meant...yes maintenance will be brutal, but you only live once, and that V10 revving to redline cannot have a price put on it

Perhaps the reviewer thought he was driving a Lexus.
Since October 2015 the Junior PM has been in office.  Record mega-Billion deficits as he p*sses away our future.  An economy gutted. Stinky POTHEADS rejoice. We are going down the drain.

Something seems wrong with those prices. When I was car shopping I couldn't find an A6 with 100K for under much under 40K.

S4s were like 35-40K with 100K

Well I wouldn't spend 40k on a 6 year S8 either.  But too each their own.  Only would spend that kind of money on a 2-3 year old car, now if that means sacrificing to a turbocharged V6, so be it...

not to be picky, but its not a V6T, but a V10... ;) BIG difference!

but of course you knew that...

and I for one would for sure spend the 40k on that car. supercar sounds and supreme comfort and tech...plus it is mighty quick too...

This Buick is a regular sighting out in the country, popular with the older retired farmer who pretty well drove a Buick all his life, always shiny and will probably have 20k on it after 5 years.  I like it, just not my thing.

What I mean is I wouldn't get the V10, I would have to sacrifice to the 3.0T found in the A6, that puts out 305hp.  Which I forgot is not turbocharged, its supercharged.

I see a fair few of them around Oakville as well.  Veranos, too.  It is the Regal which remains curiously absent from the local automotive landscape.  Likely because both LaCrosse and Verano have a more defined mission statement and are more successful in pursuit of same.

agreed, GM is squandering the potential of the Regal

If it is supposed to be the performance Buick, make it so. Give the GS a more powerful engine [TTV6 can stay for the GNX, but at least give the GS 300+hp, maybe a 2.8L V6T like they have in Europe], and as well give it a bit of a diet, my it is a heavy car.

Looks wise it is fine, but needs more power and less weight to be seriously considered an alternative to the Germans...

So much potential wasted...
