Land Rover has done an exemplary job of upgrading this vehicle right where it needed to be - a much better engine (the old I6 was thirsty and lazy) and upgraded interior quality. It has respectable off-road capability for a 'luxury SUV', and there's just that sense of rock solidness that comes with a Land Rover. Now if only they can improve their reputation for reliability...

Certainly different from the sea of Q5s and X3s on the road today.   I wonder how many buyers will actually take advantage of its capability off road.

I'd take XC60 if I was in the market.

I don't see the point of this now that they have the Evoque.
On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

The great stereo with the big bass...does the vibration from the sound system cause oil leaks to accelerate or parts to fall off? Ok, ok, just the stereotype, though earned from what I hear from owners.

That is a gorgeous interior though. Hard to imagine something that pretty getting too far off the road very often.

This SpongeBob square extravaganza vehicle is a proud competitor of G-class Mercedes.

Ahh yes, the Land Rover CR-V/Rav4.....my mom looked at one way back when and they were terrible.....I imagine the new model is much better, but Id hate to have to deal with that legendary RR "reliability".
Lighten up Francis.....

Not mentioned in the article, but the engine is the same 2.0 EcoBoost found in the current Escape.

The LR2 impressed me for its excellent visibility and tasteful interior. The price, at least in base trim, is competitive for the class, and I think I would be more worried about reliability in the Volvo.

Glad they threw the 2.0 Ecoboost in this. I much prefer the LR2's boxy styling compared to the "Posh Spice" Evoque - glad they're still making it.

Agreed, it's just about the perfect engine for the job. While it would get a workout with the LR2's weight, it has enough torque to move it around confidently while still making notable fuel economy improvements over the outgoing engine.

Why choose it?  It's nice to look at and the cabin is nice, but it's basically just another lux-category soft-roader SUV.  The harshest conditions it will ever see is the teeny bit of gravel to the cottage and maybe some snow covered roads.

Real off-road?  Well, it has some of the goods, but it has no low range or locking diff and it rides on those low profile 19" tires.

It really is "just another" X3, Q5, etc, etc.  How many will we see out crawling over rocks and stumps?  The old Disco can be found doing that.  Not the LR2.

Wouldn't go near any Land Rover.  A Family member and some of my friends had one.  They spent lots of dough on numerous and costly repairs then finally threw in the towel.  Nice looking but unreliable vehicle in my books.

I don't remember the last time I saw one on the road...

Plenty of Range Rovers and Evoques though.
