Help Me Get the Evil Dihydrogen Monoxide Banned!
« on: September 10, 2010, 03:42:39 pm »
Look at what this stuff can do, no wonder we should ban it:

* Death due to accidental inhalation of DHMO, even in small quantities.
* Prolonged exposure to solid DHMO causes severe tissue damage.
* Excessive ingestion produces a number of unpleasant though not typically life-threatening side-effects.
* DHMO is a major component of acid rain.
* Gaseous DHMO can cause severe burns.
* Contributes to soil erosion.
* Leads to corrosion and oxidation of many metals.
* Contamination of electrical systems often causes short-circuits, potentially leading to fires.
* Exposure decreases effectiveness of automobile brakes.
* Found in biopsies of pre-cancerous tumors and lesions.
* Given to vicious dogs involved in recent deadly attacks.
* Often associated with killer cyclones in the U.S. Midwest and elsewhere, and in hurricanes including deadly storms in Florida, New Orleans and other areas of the southeastern U.S.
* Thermal variations in DHMO are a suspected contributor to the El Nino weather effect.

Despite the danger, dihydrogen monoxide is often used:

* as an industrial solvent and coolant.
* in nuclear power plants.
* in the production of Styrofoam.
* as a fire retardant.
* in many forms of cruel animal research.
* in the distribution of pesticides. Even after washing, produce remains contaminated by this chemical.
* as an additive in certain "junk-foods" and other food products.

Rumour has it that it is a major dilutant in alcoholic beverages and to make matters worse it is used to make Tea.

Sign up at www.dhmo.org

I have years of experience working with DHM and I can tell you for sure: I don't want DHMO, not in my drink and not in my boots!

DHMO is a dangerous chemical.   You can produce an explosive from it with electricity.  Said explosive can be detonated easily.

Smarter than anyone in the video (Penn and Teller by the way)  :thumbup: :flowers:   Being in the forestry/environmental field, I get rather fed up with how misinformation is used and this just gave me a good chuckle today.

Ran this by some family members; my kids wanted to know what it was before signing anything and another relative said she would rather drown than have anything to do with this evil chemical   :rofl2:
