That would be 320,000 kms I trust.

If I had to own a car long enough to drive 320,000 kms in it  ( that would be >16 years now)  I would definitely NOT have a Toyota...I'd want something interesting.  Every one to their own preference tho'.

Ha ha.  Talk about a good excuse to get a Porsche.  The Cayman is an odd enough duck to be interesting.  The Boxster...not sure I'd get one of those.

I actually have always liked the Cayman , poor seller for them , its just a Boxer with a roof , but you can't knock that perfect balance and with a rating of the Boxer 85 % better than average reliability -top of the list , you don't have to worry about the pricey repairs so much , just the entry fee .

Think of the entry fee as a one time investment.

Back in the day...say when I was 40  then indeed my choice would be a Porsche,Lotus, TVR, etc. You know what I mean, an interesting Euro mid priced sports car. ( or even a Morgan!)

Now, at 65, a 320,000 km car would get me past the day they try to take the licence away so maybe it would have to be something a bit easier to get in and out of.  Like  an M5  or MMret's wish list  M-B AMG.

I am sure there is a special OAS payment for the upkeep of expensive German cars for people with a pension.  Somewhere...

My last three cars have had most of those things.  I dunno about the
"Easy to see and read controls--look for controls that are mounted closer to eye level"   I think I'd rather have the windshield to look through...   but my VW does have atrocious instrument lighting for old eyes.  Blue and low contrast, the radio display is unreadable at night or in sunshine.

Well .. I don't think not seeing the instruments well would bother me too much but I certainly would want an easy to read gas gauge . Never gave it much thought before . I certainly agree with you on the glass thing . I would want it all over , no thick pillars , with those camera things too . Maybe one of those ones that beep now to warn you of things . I would want the seat kinda the same height as mine . I think that would make it easier to get into . Never had a tall suv /crossover whatever before so don't know for sure if it would help any . Defineately cameras beeper sensors everywhere, in case I had trouble turning my head to change lanes . I'd like to look and see whats up ahead so it would give me better time to react . So defineately a tall car .
I'd have to think about that . I didn't read that Consumer Report , but being from them it would be a little more legit for you .

I was in a VW the other night for the first time in years and was immediately turned off by the instrument lights. Never saw so much blue, seemed an odd choice.

Probably looked cool. The new Mk VI is back to sensible black and white

The blue-and-red lighting was gorgeous in my MkIV Jetta.  The first-gen Acura TSX also used blue very well, in an attractive blue-and-white interior lighting scheme.

Red or orange or green is better for night vision, but I think blue is pretty.
