Chevrolet's response to Ford's 1957 Ranchero sedan-pickup was the 1959 El Camino based on the full-size Chevrolet sedan. In 1964, it switched to the mid-sized Chevelle chassis, and in 1978 to the smaller Malibu chassis.  Its 30-year run ended in 1988.

I was just a young lad living on the south coast in the UK and some guy who lived close by owned a brand new turquoise and white 1959 El Camino. It looked like you could park 2 British cars in the back of it. I love the way the shape of those rear fins were used in the tailgate design. Memories.

One of our neighbours had a 1976 GMC Caballero for sale a couple of months ago. Me and Lady Osis were out for an evening walk and went past it. She saw me looking at it: "No." Case closed. :)
