Test Drive: 2010 Dodge Avenger R/T
« on: July 30, 2010, 04:09:29 am »

This V6-powered mid-size Dodge sedan is not the first choice on most people's lists, but its powerful engine, roomy cabin, comfortable ride and comparatively low price make it an excellent value in its class, says Editor-in-chief, Greg Wilson.

Lousy performance. Lousy resale values. Lousy interior design. Lousy interior materials. Lousy exterior design (admitedly, subjective).

"Wow! That’s definately a lot of sedan for the price!"? Define "a lot"...

Good luck, Mr. Marchione.

I'd be tempted to buy one if they sold them at the Cavalier/Sunfire price a few years ago, $9000-$10,000, no more than that. That seems reasonable for Chrysler quality.

I guess I need to look at more Chryslers. The two I have driven in the past year (a 300C loaded and a Challenger SRT8) were both very nice driving cars with no obvious quality issues.

From what I've seen, the Avenger and Sebring are not bad cars or junk like many people are saying. They're just average vehicles that are decent but without outstanding features in a class that is extremely competitive. If it was 2004, they would probably be at or near the top of the class. Unfortunately for them, it's 2010 and they need updates fast. Chrysler now has a direction that cares about the company for the first time in more than 10 years, and they're supposed to be updated for the 2011 MY and replaced a few years after.

I'm looking forward to the new Chrysler personally.

The Interior is awful. I bet it has the massive gap in the middle of the steering wheel if you feel behind the airbag cover, just the like the caliper. I have to say despite their suspect quality IMO they design nice look cars from the outside.  8-10 grand for 2 year old car is a big loss tho. So if must have one only buy used.

Chryco has suffered from neglect at the hands of Cerberus.  They bought and gutted the company.  The interesting models developed in the early 2000's were left to rot on the vine and most current models are sporting interiors from 8 years ago.

Even the Jeep brand, one of the most recognizable (and probably valuable) in the industry, has been horribly neglected.  Let's hope Fiat does better - they couldn't do any worse...

Beats me why anyone would buy one of these. Ignoring the awkward exterior design ( I know, I know - I drive a Versa ::)...), I'd reject this vehicle for the horrible interior alone. Except for the nav screen, that dash would've looked old ten years ago. The interior plastics scream CHEAP even in the pictures - did Rubbermaid manufacture those door panels?  :P My old 2000 Neon looked better than that, and after 8 years the interior was still almost as good as new. No squeaks or rattles either - I doubt if anyone could say that about one of these ten years from now.

Last Chrysler product I test drove, the Patriot, had so much flashing left on the plastic bits, I was afraid I would slice my hand on it. I really wanted to like it too, It made me a bit nostalgic for the old Cherokee, but I could NOT live with these horrible interiors.

Consumer Reports did not recommend any Chrysler Vehicle and neither did Lemon-Aid, I had a Chrysler Product once, never again for me. They are not value for Money and for anyone to recommend them is beyond the pale!

Just the deprecation alone sound should be enough reason not to buy - might be a reasonable buy as a 2-3 year old used car if cheap enough for some who doesn't care about cars.
