What's wrong with frameless windows?
On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

I prefer frameless windows, the frame isn't in your way when you open the door and the windows are down.

That said, I do find that a strong gusty crosswind will make the windows squeal sometimes.

Now, now... I'd simply call it Blandtacular!

AWD and a wagon version were what made the Legacy relevant in today's mid-size family car market.  Without the wagon, the Legacy has lost a lot of appeal.

Honestly what do you have to be smoking to screw this up???

What is going on with Japanese car designers... first the ugly Impreza, then the fiasco at Acura and now this...

Ummm...Subarus have always been "ugly" or at least never paticularly good looking.  But everyone warmed up to them after a while.

What I am disappointed about is no wagon anymore.  What happened?

While there will not be a Legacy wagon anymore , they dropped it for 08 actually, there still should be the Outback variant. Anyone seen or heard anything about that?

The Outback is one of Subaru's best-selling cars in the States, so it's not going anywhere.  The Legacy Wagon wasn't selling here at all.  When I bought one, and later decided to sell it, I had it on the market for months, and it was actually a guy from Saskatoon who bought it.  I'd had one tentative overture from a guy in Texas, but besides that, nobody was touching the car.

The Legacy Wagon was probably just cannibalizing sales from the Outback, not bringing buyers who wouldn't otherwise be buying a Subaru.  From a business perspective, I can understand why they cut it.

Tag line reads:  Subaru goes after Camry and Accord.

Great - what the automotive landscape REALLY needed was more camcords.  I know, I know, it will appeal to a broader cross-section of buyers, bla bla bla...

They're going after the Camry and Accord in refinement.  Have you ever heard anyone say "this car would be better if it was just noisier on the highway"?  The essential Subaru-ness isn't changing.  It's still offering a boxer four, a turbo boxer four, a longitudinal crank, and full-time AWD.  Name one other family car with that.

As for the size, the 2008 Impreza is the same size as the outgoing Legacy.  Not good for sales of your "midsize" car when it's no bigger than your (or anyone else's) compact, but still priced against other midsizers.

What's wrong with frameless windows?

They tend to be very prone to air leaks. Any misalignment  or deterioration of the window seals and boom wind noise. I had 98 Neon with frameless windows. Numerous issues with wind noise. I had an O2 Impreza frameless windows that was in and out of the show from day 1 for wind noise due to the frame less windows. They eventually came out with a TSB but it still never 100% fixed it. That was when the car was new. Imagine what happens when the seals get old?

The other thing about frameless windows is more of a feel thing. Because there is no frame to hold the glass when the door is open when you shut the door the window moves within the track. I sounds and feels very "funky" for that window to rattle around. The Impreza while a good car felt kinda tinny (thin door panels, rattling windows) and this added to it but one can live with it.

If you have a 40K plus Legacy competing with Lexus and Acura you don't expect the doors to feel junky every time you close them.

I see this as a smart and good move for Subaru.  All you have to do is look at the Forester and even the Impreza, their sales are up after their re-designs.  Until they put more rear seat room in the Forester for 09, it was not even an option for our family but now its perfect.  And nor was the Legacy/Outback for the same reason.

Of course, those who who really liked the old versions are lamenting the un-Subaru aspects of the new but for Subaru, its probably a key to their survival in the current conditions.

Ours seems to seal very well. Up to 170km/hr with no air leaks. It may deteriorate as the rubber ages.

The doors don't rattle when closing, at least not yet.

Mustangs do the BMW trick and drop the windows a cm or so when the door is opened, then go back up when closed. Very good seals on them.

 :iagree:

If they've made the back seat a little more friendly Subaru may be on our radar in the Fall

They must be doing something right. I was just on the SCI website and their sales for March were up 14.6% (best March ever)

The one thing I will give to the 2005-2009 Legacy is that it was one of the best-looking midsize sedans on the market (on the outside).  Particularly the GT.

I agree this is fugly.  To me, it looks like the love-child of the old Legacy and the first-gen G35...both good-looking cars, but they don't mix well.

Have you ever heard anyone say "this car would be better if it was just noisier on the highway"?

I may be mistaken, but wasn't it you just the other day decrying the use of sarcasm as being so very objectionable? Pot - kettle - black?

I see this as a move to the center and don't welcome the homogenization of the midsize sedan segment into "big / fat / soft" as perceived virtues. I understand WHY they want to do it, but I don't have to like it.  At least they have retained (at least I hope so - remains to be seen) a fair degree of sportiness in the GT model.  But this is yet another entry in the segment that in taking a long step toward "fat" has also moved closer to "ugly".  Mazda 6 would be a notable exception.

:iagree: +1.  Go figure....GM seems to have had Buick RIGHT all along, with the imports chasing THEIR lead!   :D

I like the looks of this redesign. Anyone know what the "in the showroom" date is for Canada?
