Old computer stuff
« on: January 26, 2009, 03:38:54 pm »
I have some old equipment that I no longer use - one old laser printer, one ink jet, one fax machine  and two CRT monitors that I would like to give to an organization or agency that can put them to good use. They all still work. Anyone out there have some ideas for the GTA.

I was thinking Salvation Army but cannot find any info that they would accept.

Here in NB, the Telephone Pioneers Association refurbishes old computer stuff for charitable groups and such.

You might try tracking them down; there must be a chapter up there.

You can try Value Village. If its all in good shape and you dont mind making a few bucks your other choice is craigslist. I sold a CRT through it once. Only took one day.

There used to be a place on Eastern AVe, the stump of it west of the DVP that specialized in old computers. Probably gone now. Try calling Goodwill as they may have contacts.

I second craigslist/Kijiji.  Offer it for free if you want it gone quickly, or ask for $10 if you want to make sure it doesn't get picked up to collect dust somewhere.  Kijiji has a lot more traffic, but craigslist seems to have better control over spammers and such.

I have an 8'x8' corner of the basement filled with old equipment, and I'm slowly going through it as even older equipment breaks.  I even had a 386 computer running up until a few years ago when the hard drive finally died, and the motherboard wouldn't recognize any newer ones.  The oldest relic still in service right now is a 90 MHz Pentium from around 1994 that is a print and file server. I'd take all your stuff, but as it is my pile-o-crap will already last me for the next ten years.  ;D

If it works, I have given to churches and other groups.  If they are a registered charity, they can give you a tax receipt for your donation.

This could be the first known case. To bad - so sad and such a waste of grey matter. :rofl2:
