Railton, try VPN without any encryption on your wireless signal.  If that works and you don't live in a very high traffic area (in terms of residences close to you), use MAC filtering instead of encryption on your router.  Not very many people will take the time to scan the air for MAC addresses in an attempt to get around your filter, not when they can drive half a block down to get to an open network.

Watch out of half naked guys driving down the street the wrong way surfing for child porn on your wireless. 

MAC addresses are quite easy to spoof.  You can see it in plain view with a simple sniffer.

I had an older Lucent B NIC, with an port for external highgain antenna, works with the iPaq and Win CE, it can sniff ip packets very well. Don't think all WiFi NIC are sniff.
