Hey it looks the same as every other 911 since it's introduction hahahaha

Not the busiest of designers are they...  For whatever price, new/used etc. give me a Ferrari any day, not as reliable as a Porsche, but bucketloads more passion.

I also believe the Cayman is a better car, now if you could only fit the 911 turbo engine in there... hmmm....  :rofl2:

Choosing a car based on reliability is like choosing a wife based solely because she is punctual. There is more to it than that...

I disagree again...

A Merc SL, Aston DB9 & Bentley Continental etc etc are GT's... the 911 is still a sports car.

IMO the Lotus is basically a track car which is road legal, and as a road car it's way to harsh a ride and "stripped" for everyday use.

M.

You make my point. "...basically a track car which is road legal,..." as in a car for sport or sports car. The DB9, for instance has been raced, but it takes quite a bit of de-contenting and prep work, just as most of the 911s driven off dealer lots.

On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

Hmmm...

"You've obviously had a lot of experience of this then..?    "

err, no.  I have driven two ex-colleagues 911's and liked both immensely.

A close friend was thinking of buying the Lotus so hired one for a long weekend and immediately decided that it was more suited to the track & was not viable as a weekend car, let alone an 'everyday' car.  He ended up buying a Lotus 7 track car.

Quite why forum members need to make snide one-liner remarks is beyond me - this forum is about cars, and I and most other members of this forum express our views on cars without the need to have a thinly veiled dig at others posts & opinions.

Lets agree to disagree eh, or am I missing something ?

M.

Turbo Bob used to own an Exige (for which I'll be eternally envious), so he's not necessarily an unbiased observer. ;D

And I'm quite willing to agree to disagree.

I was referring to your comment about the Lotus' rather than the 911.

Your comment,

just sounded like you were reading from a magazine. It's what everyone says who has never driven one or owned one for any amount of time, especially nampby pamby journo's.

I drove an Exige for two years as my everyday car, and yes, it's a little sportier than most, but it was fine.  I think you'll find a 911 is as comfy inside as a BMW 5 series, it's fast yes, and handles very well, but it doesn't feel that sporty to me, I think an older air-cooled one would be lighter, louder, and be a much more rewarding experience to drive.

Lotus' are not designed for the Boxster demographic, they are for people who want more from their driving experience, and yes that means it's a bit harsher, but that doesn't mean it has to be on a track.

Goodbye car...  :'( :'( :'(

Don't know too much about Porsches.  I think I would prefer a Cayman over the 911 though.  What is quality and reliability like for Porche?  Can the average person change the oil and plugs on a Cayman / 911?  I am a bit old fashioned and not a big fan of the water cooled set.  I still prefer the look and idea of the 1994 to 1998 993.  Has anyone who has owned a pre 1998 993 had any issues with oil leaks, the air injection pump, wiring harness?  Sorry for switching gears on you.

I think both Porsche and BMW have abandoned dipsticks and other things that make owner maintenance easy.  So no, they're not easy to work on.  I know BMW has done this (likely to keep people coming to BMW dealerships for service); I think Porsche did as well.

That's disapointing - the no dipstick!  I hope this is not the trend... I'm surprised Cadillac / Merecedes / Audi / Lexus / Infiniti etc. have not jumped on the wagon yet?

Not feeling it at all.  They feminine-ized it just as the 997 got back it's masculinity after the 996.

Bah.

Porsches are very reliable indeed, especially for a performance car.

I've always wondered WHY "performance" cars are automatically assumed to be BASKET cases after a thousand Kilometres...most of them are Ov'r engineered and  Ov'r Priced ..that's a given in todays market....aRE THERE no stories IN THE UNIVERSE
where some SCHLUBB drove one fer 500,000K with just regular OIL changes....!!!!
