" This has the effect of aligning the test speeds of the Canadian bumper safety standard with those of Europe and the United States and provides manufacturers the option of meeting the European safety requirements or the safety and no damage provisions of the United States. "

So we may see some changes in the RIV document then as there are several vehicles in that list which specifically mention bumpers. I wonder how long it will take for this to be done.  Reading the link it does look as if the new rules may be retroactive for vehicles that meet the US standard but not the old Canadian standard.  VW R32 for instance.

i see that for a year both standards will be allowed, then it will be the new standard only and I wonder why they would not just allow both standards for ever.

Why not allow the current standard forever? For housekeeping purposes.  Why continue publishing a standard that's irrelevant?

Yes, but only if the only reason the US Elise is not permitted for importation is because of bumpers.

The list doesn't make it clear that the bumpers were the only reason the 2004-2006 GTO was inadmissable.

Nope. but it is an easy test as I believe that Bumpers were the only thing with that car.

Some vehicles on the RIV list are still coming up as "cannot be modified to meet Canadian standards CMVSS215(bumpers)" ???

However,it appears the list has not been updated since June 13 so maybe this will change.

Wouldn't it just be easier for everyone one to say "if a car can be legally licensed in the US it's legal in Canada? ::)

And how would the bureaucrats justify their existence then ?    There are at least a zillion other examples where stuff is made more complex than necessary to justify jobs for "officials"
