Back when aircraft were made of doped fabric they were actually slower than most BMWs are today!

I can imagine a "smart" fabric that can have its physical characteristics altered by electrical currents working for a car body.     Once you have a fabric like that then just need some sensors and a computer to tune up the surface for different conditions... speed, wind direction, hitting something and so on.

Fabric here used loosely to cover any flexible/ deformable/ colourable/ non-flammable material.

I'm glad car companies are looking at new ways to approach the automobile. New skins, new designs, new concepts, are always welcome in my mind.

Very, very nice. The car looks wonderful, almost organic.

Agreed.  An interesting and intriguing concept.

Don't quite agree with him about it not affecting crash safety. There were cases in Hong Kong where some metal railing went into a fully metal car and speared the occupants.

What happens when you put the skin in the wash and forget that your red boxers are still in the machine, though...?  :D

Love the way the engine bay is revealed.  It's like a surgical procedure, pulling away skin as it is slowly being cut by a scalpel!  :o

Do you have to iron it? ;D

The concept is interesting. Change colours or textures in a couple of hours. No rust, no repainting, no door dings. Damaged panel? Zip on a new one.

I don't understand how Bangle keeps himself employed though, not a very elegant design.

And no waxing and buffing...

They can probably use kevlar and nano-fibers to make it bullet proof.  I wonder if you can get it in a plaid print to match one's boxers.  :)

In all seriousness, I think it's a brilliant idea.  I've no idea if its feasible in the real world, but I wouldn't mind a car with a fabric exoskeleton.  No panel gaps, no paint chips, and (if its as clever as the concept) the ability to actually change shape?  Very, very neat...

Wouldn't be surprised to see a concept hydrogen or other super-high-mileage hybrid with this sort of exoskeleton in the future...

Yeah, just mix a little Liquid Crystal into the paint and some Indium Tin Oxide to melt the dar'gum snow off the panels in the winter.

PS. I thnk this Gina concept is brilliant.
