Two lose $176,000 in funny money scheme
Police have charge five people in connection with a scheme involving chemically altered cash that has fooled two people out of $176,000, in separate events.

On April 24, a man and woman tried to buy a business in Orangeville, Ont. for cash.

The man and woman told the seller the money had been chemically altered to look like blank paper, and could be restored with chemicals again to be restored, a costly process.

The business owner sold the company for $165,000.

In a separate incident on May 14, three people approached a man in a parking lot in the Yonge St. and Highway 7 area.

The trio told him they had Canadian money that had been altered and smuggled out of Africa, but could be restored using costly chemicals.

In exchange for an investment in the chemicals, the trio offered the man 40 per cent of whatever money they could restore.

The suspects tried to demonstrate the process by applying the chemical to one “bill,” telling the man restoration would take time. The suspects sent the man for coffee, and before he returned, switched the fake bill for a real one. The man gave the trio $11,000.

After the man was later told more money was needed, about two weeks later, he reported the incident to police.

In connection with the April incident, Janet Chudeu, 37, and Armand Chudeu, 34, of Brampton, each face one charge of fraud over $5,000 and possession of instruments of forgery.

In connection with the May incident, Jules Dontji-Fabo, 48 of no fixed address; Mathieu Kougoum, 51, of Montreal; and Jacques Julien Lontchi Tinfa, 28, of Laval, each face charges of fraud over $5,000 and possession of instruments of forgery.

My only question is how does someone that STOOPID get his hands on $11,000 in the first place??

Wow, that's pretty stupid!

There's money to be made if that wasn't illegal.   :)
