Pre-paid calling card
« on: April 15, 2008, 06:58:04 pm »
I want to get a pre-paid calling card to keep in wallet for back up, like when my cell phone doesn't work, or just to use with my cellphone when I need to make a long distance call when Im outside my home area.

I remember a long time ago I used to use ATT's calling card, which is awsome because it was only a couple of cents per minute, never expires, and no maintainence charge. Is there still such a thing nowdays in canada? Access number can be either toll free or local, doesn't matter.

CiCi card is one of the best I've ever used.  No disconnection and clear lines.  Top Notch!

I use www.idphonecard.com because you don't need a PIN.
You can't just have your characters announce how they feel.
That makes me feel angry!

^^You have to enter 10+ numbers anyways...those extra 4 for the PIN pushed you over the edge, eh??   ;D

I find the discount long distance companies more convenient than calling cards.  You can sign your cell phone up with a company like Yak and they'll charge you their low rates and bill you later...  you can also dial their local connection number from any pay phone and just feed the machine.  A calling card is just one extra card in your wallet imo.

^^I haven't seen any long distance companies charging only 1.5 cents to 2.5 cents a minute for calling....

Skype has an add-on sevice, Skype-Pro for $3 a month, free calling anywhere in North America. I use it on my cell phone. (smartphones can use the software Fring, lets you connect other messaging services as well).

Brilliant, particularly if you have unlimited internet or a decent traffic available on your phone. Sound, connection quality is very good. I use it for international calls as well, a bit costly for international calls.

I tried a few skype phones, but the good ones are quite pricey (cordless and corded ones attached to computer). So I just use a compact headset when calling from my laptop.

That looks very interesting. I have koodo's plan with unlimited call to five numbers, so if I add one of the access numbers to the five I can call anywhere in north america for 3c a minute, even if my regular minutes run out!
