Aveo Update

Maybe for Europe only...

New Chevrolet Aveo celebrates its world premiere in Frankfurt

Chevrolet Europe has issued the following press release:

Chevrolet Europe will present the Kalos’ successor at the Frankfurt Motor Show (13 to 23 September 2007). The most significant features of this completely reworked model are its striking exterior, its high-class interior and a new, even more efficient petrol engine. Like its notchback stable mate, the new hatchback model will now bear the Aveo name throughout Europe. Sales will start in March 2008.

The Aveo hatchback sports Chevrolet’s new design features, as characterised by the big horizontally split radiator grille with a body-coloured crossbeam and the brand logo sitting prominently in the center. The dynamic detailing includes large, curved, clear-glass headlamps and fog lamps that project like spotlights from the lower part of the bumper. In profile, the body’s prominent shoulder lines catch the eye, while the back of the car is dominated by the solid bumper and the round tail lamps in a clear-glass housing.

There is a choice of two petrol engines: a new 1.2-litre unit with an output of 84 hp, and the existing 1.4-litre engine, which now develops 98 hp and is available with automatic transmission.

It's got the side air vent for that big engine  :rofl2:

Looks like the old Aveo5 with a new front grafted from a larger vehicle. A new Malibu/Beat concept grille with Suzuki SX4 headlights. True Cortina!

Think I need to see some more photos from different angles. Have they changed the rear much?

Would imagine this is what we'll be getting.

I guess that's akin to trying to put lipstick on a pig. No matter how hard you try, it's still a pig  ;)

Ah, we live in exciting times in carland.

Wow. As you know Montrealers will be able to see the new Aveo5 before anyone else at the Montreal Auto Show in January.

Whoopee for us.  ???

Despite using an old platform, the Aveo offers a level of quality that’s bang up to date. Traditionally a choice motivated by value for money, the updated Chevy now has the looks and appeal to attract a more fashion-conscious customer. The range is varied and the chassis responsive, but we’d advise sticking to the more frugal 1.2-litre engine. The whole driving experience is greatly improved by the quality interior, and sales success is on the cards.

Interesting.  Yesterday I read an online review in German on Der Spiegel's website, and it was very positive as well.  Main complaint was about the dowdy interior.

Given time, the former Daewoo may be able to follow in Hyundai-Kia's successful footsteps.  The re-badged cars are certainly finding favour in central and eastern Europe.  Chevrolet Europe's sales figures have risen by 33% over the past year, increasing by 200% in Russia alone.  Even in Germany's demanding market sales are up 10%.

How strange that they would say that, considering german cars like the VW are dull on the inside. I think it is a vass improvement over is predecessor. The outside is just a tiggle tho. Could be better IMO. They did an alright job with the saloon here in NA. :)
