They worked with Peugeot on the engine, how about putting one of Peugeot's exellent diesel engines in it as an option for the North American market.
The turbo-diesel engine in the 307 estate we drove while in the UK during July was an absolute gem. Excellent pickup, great torque anywhere in the gear range, fabulous mileage, no black fumes or foul smells, the list just goes on and on.
When you fill up at many petrol stations in the UK (especially Tesco) they have a supply of plastic gloves by the pumps - so you don't even have the smell of diesel fuel on your hands after filling up either. Neat idea that we could use here. For the time being I keep a box of them in my car - you can pick them up at National Grocers and other shopping supplies stores.
