"No purchase necessay"... right?
« on: May 31, 2008, 06:12:02 pm »
As I understand it, contests must say "no purchase necessary" lest they may constitue gambling.

Turn to page 10 in June 08's CarGuide magazine....

a mobil oil contest says in the fine print:

"No purchase necessary.  Contest runs from April 1 to July 7, 2008.  Contest is open to Canadian residents who are over the age of majority.  To enter, purchase either a 4.4L or 4.4L + 1L specially marked bottle of Mobil 1 5W30 or 10W30....."

That's it!  Report 'em to the gaming commission.

There should be more instructions on how to enter the contest when not purchasing the items like sending a post card to a certain address.   Sometimes it is buried in the contest rules.

I've seen beer companies do the same.  With the "no purchase required" route, (for a baseball cap or tshirt, say), you have to include a check or money order, for s&h, which is usually close to cost of product anyways.

Maybe so.  It's definately taken a step down, but it's still better than "dino" oil in terms of the additives package and overall engine protection for everyday cars.  This is considering the dino oils are so good these days that the only reason to go with a synthetic like M1 is for extreme cold temp flow characteristics.  Personally, I've switched to Castrol Syntec if there's a choice at the store.  I use my left over M1 for the lawnmower and snow blower. :lick: (I dunno, just wanted to use that smilie.)

 Castrol oil is good stuff.  It's what we recommend to customers who say "I'm looking for oil."  Either that or the cheap Motorcraft stuff, because they're "looking for cheap oil"...
