Corvette Z06

I just got back from AJAC TestFest today. I must say that GM has worked wonders with the Z06. The C6 is fun and quick, but the Z06 was incredible! The rubber provided so much grip that it was very hard to get back the back end to break loose at Shannonville, even on the fast track with a little moisture.

The Magnum SRT-8 was a hidden gem. A meancing beast on the track with gobs of pull, and incredible finesse when exercised on the track hard. Unfortunately the OPP pulled me over on the 401 to take a look-see as well, leaving me 359.00 lighter.

bigbad - ah, the terrible price you test drivers pay to bring us lowly plebs some inclinling of what driving these hotrods is all about. The Z06 looks great on paper, glad to hear it is as good to flog. I would on top of my list if I had that kind of scratch.

$359 + points? Ouch.  :o :(

I'm from BC, so will have to find out if points transfer. Sad part is, I was picked from mid-pack, and the guy behind me was tailgating and had a dog in his lap!  The OPP officer saw the menacing SRT8 and the obvious build sheet stuck on the side window and knew he had one of the TestFest cars!

Glad to hear the news on the SRT8, I have a Charger SRT8 on order, it is built and I am hoping to get it delivered this week ;D

He said 149 km/h. So in his mind I guess he was cutting me some slack. As I was just keeping up with the traffic, I am unsure of real speed. One thing you will find annoying on the SRT-8 cars is the speedo. Unlike a reagular Charger or Magnum gauge, the SRT-8's jumps in 30km/h segments, so there is no mark at 100, not even a line. it goes from 90 to 120, meaning the centre line is a buck five! You better behave in that car as the sensation of speed is non-existent. The seats are spectacular, even better than the Z06 for holding you in place under high speed cornering. Enjoy, but behave, or your license will be toast!   As for the dog, I am unsure. ;)

Thankfully Corvette has Dave Hill to protect it from the GM management. Without the likes of Hill, and several others before him, Corvette would have been killed off by GM.

The book "All Corvettes Are Red" by James Schefter, published in 1996, is an excellant read on how Corvette survived in spite of GM management.
