Help with installing Asymmetrical tires
« on: October 23, 2005, 09:42:51 pm »
I just bought a set of Pirelli Wintersport 210 tires already installed on a set of steelies.  They are all installed with the same side outwards.  (Each side has a different side wall)

I was under the assumption that these tires were also directional and should be installed a certain way.  (Two with one sidewall outwards, and two with the other side outwards)  Could someone (Morty  :) ) tell me how these tires should be installed.

Thanks.

Check the arrow on the sidewall...they should point towards the way they should be rotating.

There is no arrow on assymmetrical tires. They are designed with an outside tread and an inside. All 4 tires should be installed the same with the sidewall labelled "Outside" facing out. These tires are not directional. They can be rotated and mounted to any position on the vehicle. Nice and easy!

Damn....mis-intrepreted the message.  But I guess reading the sidewall would do it?

If the tires are asymmetrical, there should be something on the sidewall that says "This Side Out".

If they are directional, they will have the arrow.  If they are both asymmerical and directional, they'll have both.

Sounds like you have asymmetrical and they have been installed correctly.

I too had the Pirelli Snowsport 210. They are definitely not directional...just asymmetrical.

It is kinda difficult to visualize the asymmetricity (is there such a word? :P) of the Pirelli 210 as the tread pattern is not very drastic.

If you look at the Yokohama Parada, then it is more apparent.

Are all assymmetrical tires not directional, or just the Pirelli ?

I believe the BFGoodrich g-Force KD is both asymmetrical and directional.

IIRC so was the older Goodyear GS-C and the older Pirelli PZero (the newer ones are separated).
