Winter tire pressure
« on: September 29, 2005, 06:53:20 pm »
Some manufacturer recommends adding 3 psi to the recommended one for winter tires.  Does anymore know the reason for this.

Thanks in Advance.

When temperature drops, so does the air pressure. When you are in the midst of a cold snap check the air pressure in the morning before you begin to drive. You will find the tires a little lower than normal. Bump your pressure to the one listed on the driver's door placard or owner's manual. Remember to check your pressure once a month or when there is an extreme weather change.

In general ( I am sure there are exceptions) I think they reccomend an extra few pounds due to most winter tires being 1 speed rating lower than the summer tires. The exra pressure helps compensate for the softer sidewalls of the winter rubber.
