winter tires for RSX

Any advice for winter tires on an Acura RSX S type (205 - 55 - 16 ) -- considering bridgestone blizzak Revo ( they no longer make the WS 50 and the Revo is the replacement for it ) , Kumho KW17, and cooper Arctic claw.  Anyone with RSX winter tire experience I would appreciate the input.

For most RSX owners we recommend going with an H-rated or better type winter tire. The higher speed rating offers a firmer casing and less tread squirm. Due to the performance suspension driving, a Q-rated winter tire can be uncomfortable because of the dramatic difference, when compared to your stock tires. If you are and avid skier or live in a part of the country that experiences extreme snow conditions, then you would want to look at tires with a Q or T-rating. However, in most Canadian urban areas we dont drive on compact ice and snow through the whole winter. Most of our driving is on wet and dry pavement with snow driving when we have winter storms. The H and V rated winters offer a nice balance of great winter performance and markadly more stable handling in wet and dry conditions. Another benefit is that the tend to wear better. So, when you are driving in the dry they wont eraser on you.

The mentioned tires are one of each catagory. The WS50 and Revo are both Q-rated. The KW17 is H-rated.

Where do you live?

I am in a town right on Lake Huron so we get dumped on pretty good througout the winter -- mainly snow covered/icey roads.

For extreme conditions the Q or T-rated tires would be best suited. Softer ice compound with generally more aggressive tread patterns. Your car will handle mushy, but the trade off for you sounds like it would be worth it. Q and T-rated options are:

BFG Winter Slalom
Bridgestone Blizzak Revo1
Dunlop DS2
Kumho KW19
Michelin X-Ice
Pirelli winter Carving
Yokohama IG721

Lots to choose from. Value KW19 and BFG...Upper end Revo1, X-Ice and Winter Carving
