Watch out for those corn fields, though.

Congrats Kevlar, we told ya!  I agree though the price tag is hard to swallow. And that last thing your missing in the premium package?  CRUISE!  Yes you need to get a $2000 package just to get cruise, GRRRRR

I agree with the shifter, it was huge, but I got use to it pretty quick, that's an easy change I'm sure there are some cute aftermarket ones for the mini.

I'm looking used, I see '03 cooper S's for $23k and '03 and '04 fully loaded coopers for around the same $$$.  It's on my list!

You guys had a hard time with those big European shifters in the Mini because you're so used to the little, de-masculating ones in the TSX and S2k.  Those things are more of a toggle switch than a shift lever.  Of course, I guess when you build a gearbox that works as crisp and smoothly as the one in either of those cars, you don't need to put a big manly knob on it.  :-)

I remember some threads a while back about the Mini. Most of you guys seemed against it based on price. I was defending it saying what a great car it was. And now you guys are salivating all over it? You guys are slow!

I've always maintained that it's an awesome car and gave my kudos to Mini for bringing it out -- having said that, at $30k + options for a Cooper S, it is over-priced when you consider that you get more reliability, power and functionality out of an RSX-S.  And then everyone beat me with reeds for not praising the RX8 as the end-all-and-be-all.  :-)

I still think it is WAY overpriced, but now used '03 and '04s might be worth the wait.

I'm confused,.

why would it be overpriced when new but not overpriced when used? They still seem to keep their value well used, so wouldn't that imply that they are still overpriced as used cars?

I don't know, I've seen '03 Cooper S's with 25k on them for $22k  That's MUCH better than the starting $40k price tag for a "new" car.  I still consider it new if it's under 30k or so, it usually drives and feels like new still.

I've also seen regular coopers for $16k only 2-3 years old.  Maybe that's a lot but for the fun factor I think it's fair.  Miata's hold their value more I believe.

I got to agree with Rayt, these cars maintain their value. Used might be more 'affordable' but they're not bargains.
