Got the rotten dog-legs fixed up, so she's looking pretty presentable these days.

Basically, cut out the nasty, my buddy came by and helped fab up and weld in some patch panels, and then I did the filler and finish bodywork over the course of the last two weekends. I wasn't great about taking progress pics, I tend to get caught up in the work, but here's what I have.....Pretty happy with the outcome, especially the paint match and blend - the more I do this the more better I am feeling about my spot repair / paint blending skills.

Photos flip from side to side, but both sides were really similar in terms of the damage and results.

The ugly - we wound up cutting pretty close to that paint line, just squared it up to make it easier to fab a patch

Rough filler:

Some finished pics...Yes, the paint on the rest of the car is pretty mediocre.

Looks great! And nice match with the paint

Was there some bodywork done there before? Seems like a some filler showing where you were doing the grinding

Yep, good eye. When the car was painted someone put a skim coat down there...probably had a few pinholes coming through or something; you can see what that lead too. To be fair though, car was painted in the late 80's / early 90's, it was not worth much at the time, and the work held up decently for being 30+ years old.

Have been enjoying this thing the last few weeks; got all the little jobs and cosmetics finished up, including new tires and an alignment at CFC. Put a couple hundred kms on it since, all trouble free, mostly just around town driving. Tonight Firm Jr and I went for a nice cruise along the Lakeshore, stopping in at a regular cruise night...Kiddo fell asleep in his booster seat on the way home, so I guess it passes the tired toddler test  :rofl2:
