Slow lane's new 2023 CX-5 GT
« on: June 02, 2023, 09:09:28 am »
Picked up our new CX-5 GT on 31 May. Only put 70 kms on it so far but my first impressions are really good. The new Rhodium White Premium is like a pearl finish. It is really nice. My wife pick the color but I am not disappointed at all. I love the wheels that come with the GT. Best wheels offered on CX-5 in my opinion. The CX-5 is very quiet and refined. That and the interior makes it feel like a luxury brand in my humble opinion.

My wife did not want an SUV at all. Even though it is a compact she finds it huge (She drive a Fiat 500). She jokingly calls a bus. But since getting it I think even she is coming around and finds it pretty nice.

I was please to find our it has navigation installed. I tried it and love it. The salesman said something about after 3 years I have to have Mazda do updates. I am sure that is when they start trying to hose you with charges. I will cross that bridge when I come to it and may just buy my own navigation card if I have to.

I found out I can use the My Mazda App for what I think is 2 years. After that there is a charge of about $20/mth. Another hose job. I suspect I will just enjoy it while I have it and live without it after that.

Love the heads up display!!!! So cool and helpful.

Love the new headlight and taillight design.

I have been driving pretty low tech cars up to now. This car has so many features to learn about. I am an old school guy that was still using CD's. It is going to take me a while to get used to diving into menus just to access a radio. In time I hope I adapt. At least it has buttons for climate e controls (Unlike the new BMW X1)

The car search was so long and then we had to wait for car after we ordered it. I found myself second guessing my purchase and wondering if we made the right choice. I got to the point where I was not too excited about the car. But all that changed after getting it. I now know we bought a great SUV. So far the things I like far outweigh any minor disappointments.

That is it for now. I will give a full update on my thoughts on car once I get more Kms under my belt.

Spring and a new vehicle in the driveway, congrats!

Know what you mean when on the new tech. We jumped forward almost 20 years in vehicle design to our current stable, it's certainly something to get used to. Also really like the HUD, and it pairs nicely with radar cruise on long trips

Very nice.  It's kind of funny how this forum seems to go through runs of certain makes and models.  Seems like everyone is buying the Crosstrek or a Mazda CUV of some sort.  Can't say anything negative about either really.  I'm sure you'll love this new CX-5 for a good long stretch.

Great choice: you won't be disappointed!  I just got a CX-50 yesterday, but the debate between -5 and -50 was not easy.  I preferred the smaller dimensions of the -5 and independent rear suspension.  Also didn't want 20" wheels.

... Ultimately, my choice was made more complicated because I was coming out of a 2021 Mazda3 Turbo, so the CX-5 using the older switchgear in the centre made it feel like I was going unfamiliar.  If I wasn't already so acquainted with the updated switchgear, I likely would have gone for the CX-5 instead.

Happy motoring, my fellow Mazda-er!

Congrats on the CX-5

Just an aside ... I recently purchased a 2017 Mazda 3.  It had navigation .. and I was able to update to the most recent maps for $85.00.  So no big deal there.
Also - there are lots of online resources about how to update Mazda Connect software.  I did that with no problem.  Even better ... for a few hundred bucks was able to install the new USB connector and combined with the new software .. was able to upgrade to Android Auto / Apple Carplay.  This on a 2017 model.

So, if that holds true for the future .. you should be able to avoid massive dealer charges to update Mazda Connect and Navigation files.

Congrats, I agree the color and wheels look great. Easy to see why these are so popular; they're checking all the right boxes for many people and the pricing seems 'fair' relative to what else is going on out there.
