Battery packs are reportedly coming from two suppliers - Panasonic and CATL.

The ute looks good as long as the exterior is either dark grey or black  ;)
I think it looks like :censor:.  Terrible body cladding around the wheel wells.  Maybe it's okay in black, but my god what is wrong with designers.  Also, if Hyundai/Kia can bring out an EV with over 300hp & AWD and still qualify for the federal and provincial rebates, I fail to see how Toyota can't do the same.  Having just over 200hp is complete and utter weak sauce.

Who knows, cladding may change but either way people won't care. 200hp does sound low, although when combined with low-rpm TQ of electric motors it will be satisfactory for the majority of the target audience. I think Genesis or Hyundai are bringing an electric sedan with dual motors, which would be on my radar.

LOL, I get what you are saying, but much like everything, if your money can buy more from someone else, why spend the same money and get less?

I know for all their hybrids and PEV, the way Toyota  rated the HP/TQ was wonky.

Wonder if that's the case here?

Usually that's because it's combined ICE and electric motors.  With just electric motors they are more accurate, much like their hydrogen electric vehicle.

Yes, with electric motors it's even simpler to specify their power output and it won't deviate as much as with ICE from one unit to the next.

In the video they repeat many times it's a pre production model so I'm hopeful the fugly black cladding will go away or at least assume more normal shapes.

i'm part time back to the office, still WFH too.  This week I have a interesting lunch talk with a coworker who told me have his Prius for 10 years and being a lifetime owner of Toyota only products. He put a deposit long time ago on a Rav4 Prime but changed his minds last January, cancel it for the new "incoming" BZ4x EV. He doesn't seem to care how long it'll take from now but hope to get it before QC rebate goes down 1K$ next July... I wished him luck with that!

Since the battery manufacturer & lithium chemistry are different ones, charging speed rate are not the same between FWD & AWD model, he was asking my 2¢ advice of pour and against, between the 2 versions. So I explained to him the mystery of life  :P  from my past experience, living day to day compare to longer travelling distance with an EV only vehicle.

I noticed a 2nd Tesla Model 3 in the parking lot at work but not much more...

IIRC the FWD ones get panasonic cells which charge faster and the car also has more range. With quality winter tires I see no issue unless there is towing and /or hilly terrain is part of the duties.  Cattle CATL are chinese and it remains to be seen how good those cells are.

Most first drives report an ergonomic issue with the relation between the steering wheel and instruments - taller drivers have the screen partly blocked by the steering. Solterra will have the same issue of course...
